I could feel the energy on the self titled album MONTROSE and now I can see the energy. Damn, they would've been killer to see live.

That album is killer

Randy didn't learn anything from EVH. Randy was unique and better than Eddie.

It shows that with all the internal and external tumult they must have dealt with, they could pull a live song together and just crush it.

Eddie was a lead wizard, a technical genius, and filled each section with thousands of unique flourishes and lines, but more than all that? Beyond all the crazy hard rock and metal riffs, he was a pop guitarist playing alongside similarly talented pop musicians (Ed's genius leads to people underrating Micheal Anthony in particular) in a pop band. Every VH song is full of melodically pleasing catchy hooks. That's what set Eddie Van Halen in particular above all the shredders that followed him. Everyone from Steve Vai to Tim Henson could outplay Eddie but they could never outplay Eddie within the confines of a tight 4-minute party song.

Random Thought: I'm glad Sammy ditched that headset mic. Glad that didn't last long.

Like him or not Ronnie Montrose was a Musician's musician.

This wasn’t my favorite album 1984 with keyboards etc, but Girl Gone Bad and House of Pain were masterpieces for Eddie. Drop Dead Legs too. I saw them on this tour and was 16. Best band ever!!!

Dave was a real showman but Sammy had all the talent and took VH to places Dave never could. Sammy is one of the greatest rock artist in pop history.

So, Van halen had 'In a Simple Rhyme' and 'Take Your Whiskey Home' in its original form in 1974 ...but it was not released until their 3rd album 'Women and Children First' in 1980! Such brilliant musicianship! Permanently recorded into our memories!
